The London West End production of “The Sound Of Music” is coming to Manila with shows opening on Sept. 27. It will also be staged at The Theatre at Solaire.Set in Austria during the onset of World War II, the musical tells the story of Maria, who takes a job as governess to the Von Trapp family while she decides whether or not to become a nun. She falls in love with the children and eventually their widowed father, Captain von Trapp.Many of the songs from the musical have remained popular up to this day such as “Edelweiss,” "My Favorite Things,” "Do-Re-Mi" and the title song, “Sound of Music.”

The original Broadway production, which opened in 1959, won five Tony awards out of nine nominations. It was adapted to a 1965 film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The film won five Academy Awards.
